Task 2
The school also need to produce brochures and materials that can be used at option and parent's evenings, they also want to display graphical images on the the Kingswood website and on school vehicles. You need to recommend the file types needed to display the images in the locations and justify the reasons for your choice.
Images
Brochures will often use JPEG or BITmap images due to their
smaller file size. The fact that they are made up of pixels also allows more to
be printed for lower cost and less ink usage. If a Vector image was used for
brochures, due to the fact that it is made up of lines instead of pixels, this
will cost a lot more to produce. This would not be smart; if you were to make
hundreds of brochures you would need to consider printing costs.
A Vector file would be the much more viable option for a graphic on a vehicle
as it does not lose its quality when it is stretched to any size. However, the
graphic would need to be extremely large, which could cause a problem in the
printing process.
When putting images onto the website, apart from the Kingswood logo it would be
best to use JPEG and BITmap images. This is because they are smaller files and
quicker to download/upload. However, images such as the Kingswood logo which
may not be for download can be a Vector, as this retains the quality of the
picture.
PDF files are suitable for use in documents as it retains the original formatting of a document if it is particularly important, such as brochures. PDF files are also useful if a document is particularly long (normally 5-10 pages) as people may prefer to print off certain documents instead of being forced to read them on screen.
